Email accounts providers are very important as we also use them to sign up and manage other social, general or even financial accounts. I know the importance of privacy but reliability is also a decision making factor when choosing an email provider.
With Protonmail.com, you will get a free account which will work but it is likely to get suspended when you need it the most. Imagine you have set up your social and financial accounts using Protonmail and you open your email page only to see an email account suspended message, what situation will you have to face then? It has happened to me. I am a software engineer working since 1998. I don't spam or send bulk emails yet I got my account suspended by their automatic system.
It is a free basic email service which works. You can use it for general communication.

One important thing to mention here. If you ever decide to opt for Protonmail paid services, please do note that they do not let you remove your payment information once entered and on the top of that they automatically renew your paid services and charge for them unless you manually downgrade your email service which is not possible without deleting the emails and bringing account usage below the threshold if free emails. If you are unable you bring you emails below the free threshold they will automatically charge you for the payment cycle. If your payment is declined, your email account will be fully suspended. Make sure you know this before upgrading or better stay with free email until it lasts
